Then you can trace the main lines onto the tissue to reduce the photo to a simple line drawing. Then baste the tissue onto your fabric and carefully stitch through the tissue and your fabric on the lines of the drawing to transfer the drawing to fabric. Remove the tissue paper carefully so as not to pull your stitches and then add the details in stitch using your photo as reference.
Alternatively you could simply get your photo printed onto a fabric and then stitch into it. They are lots of companies offering digital printing with minimal orders online or you could buy some photo fabric transfer paper which you can print your photo onto if you have a printer and then stitch it. Hope that has given you some ideas.

I love handstitching. I would stitch a portrait of my 5 yr old grandson Benjamin. If I had a way to transfer his photo on to fabric then I could stich is portrait. Any suggestions on how I can take a photo and transfer it to fabric? Keep up the good work.

Sharon Peoples is another interesting textile artist who does miniature portraits.
