I have just seen this article today and it is as inspiring today as it was when published! All of the key takeaways are relevant. For me, finding like-minded people to inspire and motivate was so important and having discovered Stitch Club in 2020, the workshops and membership friendships and support has helped me to explore and develop my stitching skills and style, taking me to the point where self-confidence kicks in and inspiration starts to flow. On-line workshops work so well for me as they fit in with life in general and the beauty of stitch club is that you can revisit workshops at any time. I love your photobook records of your year’s work, Heléne, and wish you much success if you decide to hold an exhibition – let me know if you do – I’d love a trip to Stockholm!

Hi Helene, I was just looking back at your article and saw that Marlene must have missed your reply. After the 2022 Gwen Hedley free Stitch Camp, one of the participants started up a follow-on group as Stitch Camp was only for 5 days and such a community had developed that they didn’t want to stop. That participant, Kim in the US, had real leadership skills and motivated so many women with projects she invented like the postcard swap where she teamed up members from across the world. It is a wonderful, motivational group, still continuing, and they’re now on Swap 4 – each has a different theme. They post pictures of their postcards and share lots of other work. It’s a little like Stitch Club but without the workshops, which, of course, we love. 🙂

Thank you Helene for your supportive comments. I have taken my own thought and jumped in this past week. Christmas has so many ghosts for me.
So get busy and play. ( my very first house to make totally mine is daunting but also very liberating)
I have this past week _ filled 2 X1 metre sized pots and put in the citrus that have been waiting impatiently. _ taken my beloved husband’s favourite T shirt and turned it into mine Now Sheba the wolf has magenta sunglasses, red highlights and slow stitched embroidery over the holes _ Begun work on the laundry area that I hate with recycled canvasses, mannequins and other mad things _ ripped out too many weeds _ painted a new table for my workroom space _ and dipped and dived into the too many art books that arrived way ahead of promised delivery date from Amazon.

BTW my Mum wanted to call me Helene, my father wouldn’t hear of it, so I was christened Julie Helen.

I am sure you did not want to know all of this. Your inspiration though has brought sparks of joy to me this week.

Thank you, Julie. So well written and yes, it is so good to try not to worry too much, or overthink. Just Do it, like you said. Creativity comes from within. Listen to that voice or whisper. Yes, you really put it so well!

Often we get tangled and slowed down by our own barriers that we put around so much that we do.
This is my story, today is mine so it is up to me to jump right in, barefooted or in steel capped boots depending on the task.
Thank you Helene and Stitch Club.

Hi, Marlene, and thank you so much for your nice comment! It is so nice to share the passion for stitch together. The postcard swaps sounds fun! (I have not heard about them, are you a group of members who send stitched postcards to each other by post?) Take care and good luck to you as well with whatever you choose to do and stitch😊🤗.
